Re: Save Our Seas
I'm not sure that package holiday divers or "cowboy dive companies' are to blame for coral destruction, although certainly they're a factor. The two biggest dangers to coral are ocean warming, which causes the coral to bleach; and inadvertent introduction of coral predators, such as the crown-of-thorns starfish (genus Acanthaster) in Australia.

Picture Request
I'm putting together a website that will allow users to 1- have a computerized dive log & 2- search other's dive-logs as they research trips to unfamiliar locations. A problem I'm having is that I don't have access to many pictures for illustration & decoration purposes. So this is a request to let me use

Scuba resort design
Hello Group, I am in the process of purchasing an Inland scuba park and need some input on the best design of restrooms, showers, lockers ect. I am looking for all type of ideas. If you had the opportunity to design a scuba park how would you do it? It has a nice clear lake and a modest dive shop but the restrooms and showers need total rehab.

Waypoints for Red Sea/Aqaba dive sites...
Hi everyone, I'm trying to create a comprehensive GIS project for dive sites (reefs, wreaks and other interesting underwater geographical features) in the Red Sea, but I'm having a hell of a time finding GPS coordinates for the individual sites. Anybody have any ideas where I might be able to find this data, or even better, premade shapefiles? Any thoughts or

New to board
Hello everyone. If you could change one thing about the dive industry, what would it be??? I thought it might be interesting to hear what everyone thought. If I could change one thing, I'd like to see training, especially for new divers, be less of a crap shoot. :-) ... and I would be interested in other opinions as well.

Diving with a knee injury
I'm curious as to if any of you out there have gone diving with a knee injury. I suffered a hairline fracture to my fibula (right below the knee) about a week ago and have a trip scheduled for Belize in two weeks. Recovery time from my doc is 4 - 6 weeks, which would put me in Belize at week 3. Right now I'm in a large, hinged knee brace,

Re: Scuba Career
Thanks for the prompt reply. Its certainly reassuring so say that PADI doesnt simply hand out Instructor grades after a few dives. Another course which seems to appear frequently on Dive Sites is the 'MSD', which doesnt appear to be necessary for your Dive Master qualification. Do you think there to be value in taking this course.

Scuba Career
Ive recently passed my Open Water in Phuket and am perhaps interested in taking it on as a career. What sort of time frame would it take for me to reach a sufficient level to start teaching? Id planned to do the rest of my PADI certification in Vietnam, purely as the price seems really competitive, would you say thats advisable? Cheers

Hello All First of all with no offense intended, Air is 20.9 O2 and 79.1 % Nitrogen and the trace gases in parts per million are all within the nitrogen side since when you measure air you can with simple means only measure the O2 so the rest is supposed to be Nitrogen in greater parts and the trace gases combined within that percentage the great

!!!DIVERS BEWARE!!! Diving below Recreational diving limits can be fatal to the untrained diver. Get into a Dive Group/Dive Shop that regularly plans this type of diving. A majority of all diving fatalities are after 80ft. It takes training, equipment and your health to do this type of diving. This comment "Air is bad for you (at depth)" is misleading. Anything

Scuba shark suit
Fabien Cousteau is using a powered wet suit shaped like a Great White shark to film his new documentary. Apparently it has a steel protective cage and an emergency bouyancy device -- his father's similar shark suit was cut to ribbons and dragged down in a spectacular shark attack in 1989. [link]

Re: Good / bad online experience
I cannot agree more with almaxey!!! If all of our local dive shops go out of business you cannot get your tanks filled from the Internet! Work with your dive shop. If you buy everything from your local shop they will give you a discount to keep you as a customer within reason.
